Neil Evans: Artist management, event promotion, 2020 plans and Ibiza

I’m sure that everyone listening to this podcast that works in the industry knows or has heard of Neil Evans from promoting some of the best events in Ibiza to managing well-known names in dance music. He’s been going to Ibiza since 1999 and since then has worked on so many different projects in nearly all of the clubs on the island including Space, Amnesia, Privilege, Pacha and Ibiza Rocks and also co-founded Electric Ibiza which is a 360º artist and label management and event promotion company.

We talk about his beginning in the industry, what’s missing in Ibiza nowadays, balancing his work as a promoter and a manager, DJ fees, his very exciting projects for 2020 and more!

Tips for artists that get nervous when being interviewed

Today it’s just me again! I thought I’d record a short episode on things to keep in mind when you’re going to be interviewed. I’ve been interviewing artists since 2013 now and during that time I've seen soooo many people feel nervous, worried or anxious about the interview so hopefully these tips from my experience could be helpful for some of you!

Eóin Smyth: Carl Cox at Space, forward thinking party promoters Game Over and the future of Ibiza

This week's episode is with a well-known figure in the music industry and Ibiza’s clubbing scene, Eóin Smyth. Arriving in Ibiza from Dublin at the age of 20, Eoin’s first job on the island was with Dance Trippin TV and later went on to work with the Carl Cox team at Space where he eventually became head of marketing and operations and really learnt the ins and outs of Ibiza's clubbing scene.

 

After the end of Carl Cox at Space in 2016 he launched Game Over with business partner Dave Browning. Fast forward to 2019, Game Over has now hosted lots of different events such as One Night Stand, Pure Carl Cox, Wildchild and more at some of the island's most influential venues like DC10, Amnesia, Privilege and Heart.

What I've learnt from podcasting so far

Today it's just myself on the podcast! I thought it would be interesting to share with you what I've learnt from this incredible podcasting journey so far. It's been so much fun but a lot harder than I thought! So here you have some tips and advice for all of those that are thinking of starting your own podcast. Hope it's useful! 

Mo'Funk: An advanced tutor for Pioneer: Helping other artists improve their skills behind the decks

This week my guest is Mo'Funk who is an Artist Relations rep / Advanced Tutor for Pioneer. Born in Sydney, Mo has spent the last few summers in Ibiza where he’s had residencies at Pacha, Cafe Del Mar, Cafe Mambo, Space, along with guest spots at Defected and Glitterbox.

 

He’s so down to earth, very hard working and incredibly skillful behind the decks, which landed him his position at Pioneer, helping other artists improve their skills and teaching them tips and tricks on Pioneer equipment.

 

You can tell that he is so passionate about what he does, which is why I loved this chat with him at the Pioneer studio in Ibiza in which we spoke about his role, how he got to where he is, some great stories he’s made along the way, fab tips for up and coming artists and so much more!

Julius Jooste: The journey of a photographer from South Africa to Ibiza

Julius Jooste is a South African born photographer, best known for his work in the entertainment and night-life scene in Ibiza, Spain.

 

It was at AFDA (The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) that he discovered how to bring his passions for art and technology together in innovative and creative ways. He excelled as a production student and took great care in developing his leadership and management abilities. 

 

In his final year of university, he was headhunted by Africa’s top live-TV and Sports production company to assist in their preparation of the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, the opening ceremony at Orlando Stadium reaching a mammoth 3 billion live viewers from across the globe.

 

In 2013, Julius left for Ibiza in search of balance and spirituality. A series of fortunate events landed him access to some of the world’s biggest and most awarded night clubs for one of Europe’s largest nightlife website, Diginights.com.

Andy Stanton - The first 3 years of event brand 33 - Challenges, goals and advice

This weeks guest is Andy Stanton. I really loved hearing about Andy’s story because he’s worked so hard to get to where he is today and it just goes to show that lots of hard work really pays off. Andy was the marketing manager for a property firm in London and at the same time loved a good party (as we all do!), and eventually, his passion for branding, communication and dance music led him to create his own event brand called 33 that started 3 years ago in London. After 3 years of hard work, the brand now has its own residency at Itaca in Ibiza and is also held in many different venues in the UK.

In this podcast we talk about Andy’s journey, how the residency in Ibiza came about, the challenges he’s come across when throwing parties in London and Ibiza, his biggest achievements yet, advice for people starting their own event brand and more!

John Acquaviva: From the beginning up until now

John Acquaviva... Where to begin?! John is such an amazing person, down to earth, hard-working and great to be around. I’ve known John for quite a few years now and each year I interview him and always learn something new!  

 

If you haven’t heard directly of John Acquaviva’s works, the chances are - whatever your involvement with electronic music is - that you will be aware of his work and influence within the electronic music community. The Italian-Canadian artist is also known for his involvement with techno titan Richie Hawtin and the forming of the highly influential labels Plus 8 Recordings and Definitive records and his fruitful involvement with Final Scratch and especially Beatport, being a vital founder of both companies.

 

He is a pioneer of electronic music’s technological evolution and helped sculpt the genre’s game-changing transition from analog to digital and from vinyl to turntables and laptops. In sharing this vision with Richie Hawtin, they spearheaded a project that would act as the iTunes of dance, which paved the path for a new and zestful era.

 

I had so much fun recording this episode with John! He had so many great stories to tell as we spoke about his journey right from the beginning up until now… I absolutely love this episode and I’m sure you will too!
